Douglas Equipment has been in business since 1955 specializing in casters and material handling equipment for almost sixty years. We work with a variety of industries, particularly in the hotel, hospitality and moving industries. We offer comprehensive guidance, a deep reservoir of experience, and a wide variety of available products at the best prices. We work with both industrial and residential clients so we have a very good idea of what kind of caster and moving needs are out there from the individual to large corporations.
Bed frame casters are one of the most important things that you never think about, until you look down at the scuffed or scratched floor, wondering how that happened and how you can avoid damaging it in the future. We design casters for beds that can accommodate all kinds of surfaces, whether the bed is at home, the hospital, a hotel, or elsewhere. We make sure to provide our customers with options depending on their needs. You may want a caster with a rubber or polyurethane wheel to prevent marking the floor. You might want a caster with a swivel for greater mobility because the bed is rolled around a lot and you don’t want to damage the walls. Should your bed be extremely heavy, we have casters that can handle this high capacity as well. In short, we are the one stop shop for bulk bed frame casters. Before you purchase a bed frame caster, there are some things you will want to think about. These characteristics will help you select a cost affordable caster for your needs:
1. Mobility – Do you think you will be moving the bed frame and bed often? If you do, you will want to invest in a better caster that is extremely durable.
2. Weight – How much does the bed weigh? Will you be moving the bed with someone in it, i.e. a patient? Does the bed have a motorized mattress?
3. Flooring – Is the floor carpeted? What type of material is the floor made of? Is it delicate? If so, you need to consider rubber or polyurethane wheels that will not damage the flooring material.
4. Noise level – You may wish to consider how much noise you might create when the bed and bed frame casters are moving. A higher quality caster will minimize noise and may be appropriate for work areas in hotels and hospitals where noise can be a factor.
Douglas Equipment manufactures a variety of casters that would be perfect for most applications. Below are a few types of casters that would be excellent for bed frames in different work environments.
At the Hospital
Our 4 Series Caster is an excellent choice for hospital beds. It can withstand up to a 1400 lbs capacity. This makes this type of caster a great choice should the hospital bed have a motorized system as well as any other equipment designed for the patient’s use. We would recommend selecting the polyurethane, rubber, or polyolefin options for the wheels as this will minimize wear and tear to the flooring in the hospital hallways, hospital rooms, and elevators. These casters come in a swivel plate design which helps increase mobility for turning tight corners. At the higher capacity end, the Enforcer model has formed fork legs with robotic welding and wheel bearing and swivel raceway grease fittings.
For the Hotel
Contour Solus Casters are an excellent choice for extra hotel beds and cots. The foot brake in the caster makes it easy to control the mobility of the bed once it has reached its location or to keep it in place on an elevator. Additionally, the caster has a precision axle for smooth operation making this a great choice for fast and quiet moving. The precision bearings in the caster improve maneuverability and reduce repair. The grey polyurethane wheel is an excellent selection to avoid scuffing and marring the floor. The caster comes with a minimum 220 lbs capacity.
In Your Home
At Douglas Equipment, we sell a general duty ball caster that is perfect for home use. We offer it with a polyurethane, soft rubber, hard rubber, and steel wheel option. With the exception of the hard steel wheel version, all the casters come with a brake. It is corrosion resistant and has a nickel plated kingpin that gives you continuous smooth swiveling. Each caster has a capacity of 90 to 300 lbs. We also design a ball caster line called Baron Casters that have rubber or polyurethane wheels. They come in four different models: Baron threaded stem, Baron grip ring stem, Baron grip neck and Baron swivel top plate models. This caster has a hooded design that can be purchased in metalized brass, Windsor antique and bright chrome. These casters have industrial strength yet have a more aesthetic design that will fit well in your bedroom regardless of how you have decorated it. This is one of our more popular caster models because it is a successful marriage of form and function.
