It’s the small things that often matter the most. When transporting drums, it is very important that they are secure. The best way to secure drums is by using adjustable bonding wire. These wires can be used to bond drums to one another, to containers being filled and even to racks for storage and transport. Depending on what is being transported in the drums, you may choose to use the specialized ground wire, which allows for a connection between drum and true ground.
Although it is desirable for obvious reasons to have items secure during transport and usage, there are also rules and regulations within the industry that are important to be aware of.
Guidelines
In order to maintain safe working and transporting environments, it is important to know that there are required guidelines that need to be followed when transporting drums. According to OSHA, they require that all drums as well as containers that store fluids with a flashpoint below 140°F need to be both grounded and bonded. Single drums must be grounded. Also, if there is a container that is being dispensed into, it must be bonded to the drum that is dispensing. Additionally, if there are multiple drums, they must be bonded to one another and one drum or the rack on which they are situated must be grounded. A very simple way to meet both of these requirements is to use adjustable bonding and grounding wires made specifically for drums.
Specific Qualities
Although most of the Adjustable Bonding Wires are available in three-foot sections, there are small differing features that make the different options unique. The basic bonding wires come in three feet sections with versatile and sturdy alligator clips on either end. The all-purpose bonding wire comes in a three-foot section of heavy-duty wire with a C-clamp on one end and an alligator clip on the other end. The deluxe ground wire comes in a three-foot long section of a heavier, insulated wire rope, and also has a C-clamp on one end and an alligator clip on the other end. No matter what your drum bonding needs are, there is an appropriate wire for the job.
