Caster Category

Heavy-Duty Industrial Casters

1,500–10,000 lbs per caster

In Stock — Miami Warehouse Same-Day Will-Call ANSI MH28.3 Compliant

Heavy-duty industrial casters carry 1,500 to 10,000 lbs per caster — the workhorse capacity range for warehouse equipment, material-handling carts, fabrication transfers, and assembly-line tooling. Construction shifts to forged or fabricated steel rigs, double-ball-bearing raceways, and hardened axles. Specifying correctly here matters more than in light-duty: a heavy-duty caster failure under load is a safety event, not a service inconvenience.

Common Applications

  • Warehouse pick carts and tugger trains in 3PL distribution centers
  • Steel coil and plate transfer carts in metal fabrication
  • Heavy assembly tooling and dies in manufacturing
  • Cold storage and freezer carts (with phenolic or stainless tread)
  • Aerospace ground-support equipment and avionics test stands
  • Custom industrial carts for process and chemical operations

When to Choose Heavy-Duty Industrial Casters

  • Total load divided by 4 casters exceeds 1,500 lbs per caster
  • Operating environment includes shock loads or transfer impacts
  • You need long service life on high-cycle (24/7) operations
  • Floor surface is concrete, epoxy, or steel — not delicate tile or tile-finished
  • Application requires kingpin-less swivel for shear-load survival

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the right capacity for a heavy-duty caster?
Total load (equipment + payload, fully loaded) ÷ number of casters × 1.25 safety factor = minimum capacity per caster. Example: 8,000 lb cart on 4 casters = 2,000 lbs ÷ caster, × 1.25 = 2,500 lbs minimum per caster. We always round up to the next standard rating to absorb shock loads.
Polyurethane or phenolic for heavy-duty?
Polyurethane is the default for warehouse concrete and epoxy at ambient temperature — quiet rolling, low push-pull force, floor protection, and flexibility over rough or outdoor surfaces. Phenolic is the economical choice for smooth concrete: non-marking, with capacity comparable to PU, and often the first pick above ~500 lbs per caster. Phenolic also handles high heat (ovens, autoclaves), but it runs louder than PU and lacks its flexibility on rough or outdoor surfaces.
