Polyurethane Casters

Most-specified tread for warehouse and industrial floors

In Stock — Miami Warehouse Same-Day Will-Call ANSI MH28.3 Compliant

Polyurethane is the most-specified tread material for industrial casters — and for good reason. PU rolls quietly, applies low push-pull force on concrete and epoxy floors, and resists chunking under cyclic load. The "PU bonded to cast iron core" construction provides high capacity (up to 10,000 lbs per caster) with floor protection. Standard for warehouse and distribution-center applications across all 7 of our caster brands.

Specifications

Polyurethane Casters — Quick Reference
Capacity range 100–10,000 lbs per caster
Temperature range -40°F to +200°F
Floor compatibility Concrete, epoxy, polished concrete, vinyl tile (light loads)
Construction PU bonded to cast-iron, aluminum, or steel core

Common Applications

  • General warehouse pick carts, tugger trains, dolly fleets
  • Distribution-center order-picking equipment
  • Light-to-heavy assembly tooling on epoxy floors
  • Hospital and institutional carts (general-duty applications)
  • Cleanroom and electronics manufacturing (with antistatic PU)

When to Choose Polyurethane Casters

  • Floor is concrete, epoxy, or polished concrete (the dominant 95% of cases)
  • Operating temperature stays below 200°F
  • Quiet operation matters (PU is quieter than rubber, much quieter than steel)
  • Floor protection is required (PU does not leave marks like steel or cast iron)

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I NOT specify polyurethane?
Three cases: (1) Operating temperatures above 200°F — PU degrades; specify phenolic or cast iron instead. (2) Direct exposure to specific chemicals (some solvents soften PU); specify chemical-resistant urethane or stainless. (3) Extreme heavy capacity (above 10,000 lbs per caster) — at that range, forged steel wheels are standard.
Which polyurethane formulation? They are not all the same.
Standard PU is fine for most warehouse/distribution. Premium "Performa" or equivalent rebound-PU formulations cost ~30% more but last 2-3x longer in 24/7 high-cycle operations and have lower push-pull force. For pharma cleanrooms, specify a food-grade PU. For ESD environments, specify conductive PU. We help match to application.
